Phaethongthan ‘Ung Ing’ Chinawat (แพทองธาร ชินวัตร; Paetongtarn Shinawatra), the leader of the Pheu Thai Party and the youngest daughter of the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra (2001-2006), has been elected as Thailand's new Prime minister.
37-year-old Paetongtarn became the youngest prime minister in the country's history and the second female prime minister in Thailand after her aunt Yingluck Shinawatra (2011-2014).
At the press conference, Ung Ing stated that she would continue the policies of the Pheu Thai Party and that her father had experience as prime minister and was ‘ready to give her advice’.
‘I am confident that our party and coalition can overcome the economic crisis,’ she said.

She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Chulalongkorn University and a master's degree in international hotel management from the University of Surrey in England.
